BACKGROUND | |||||
George Lyn Lee was a carnival mystic for a two-bit circus. He ran away from home in Big Springs, Texas at the age of 15 to join the circus. It was there he met Monica Marlow, an older woman of 18, who worked various sideshows as well as a showgirl for the circus parades and opening acts. George has always has a desire to seek out things mystical. He would get his hands on every so-called mystic tome he could find. One day a man entered his tent and told him that he truly had mystic abilities and that the old man could help him tap those powers. George laughed at him until the man started levitating both himself and George. He also brought the table to life and had it caper around the room for a while. This convinced George that the old guy might have something. He quit his job that day and told Monica that he would come back for her in a couple of years, or sooner. So George took off with the man he came to know as Master Ojibwa for parts unknown. He would send Monica a check every once in a while and tell to invest it wisely. Two years later, George sent for Monica and all three of them settled down in a house in Santa Monica, California. George, now calling himself Master Lee, set up his fortunetelling/psychic advisor business and Monica managed the books. Master Ojibwa would help George out often enough, on the sly, that rumors began to fly that Master Lee was a genuine psychic and fortuneteller. Zen the Mystic Seeker also began to make appearances. At first he would only show up when a client of Master Lee had an actual mystic problem or being to deal with or an obvious mystical problem showed up on the news. Later, he would show up at Protector or Champions headquarters to tell them of a magical menace soon to appear. Actually, Master Ojibwa would discover the problem and send George to deal with it. Zen uses his native Texas accent; George does his best to speak with an Asian accent. As Zen became better known, ‘Chase’ Roberts, of Psychic World Weekly News, would show up and at first, would try to prove Zen was a fraud. For some reason, he believed in Master Lee but not in Zen. He made Zen’s life a nightmare, trying to get incriminating photos, making slanderous statements, gossiping about his dating life and which starlet he was currently seeing. Every heroic deed Zen did, Chase would twist around to make it look self-serving. Rumor has it that Master Lee is planning to buy Psychic World Weekly News so Chase treats him with some respect. Actually, he fawns all over him which makes George sick. Zen, with Master Ojibwa, interfered in a couple of DEMON sacrifices, earning their undying hatred. One of those sacrifices turned out to be Chase Roberts, who had gotten wind of the upcoming event and somehow got himself kidnapped in order to get the exclusive on being a DEMON sacrifice. Zen debated about saving him but decided that he didn’t hate Chase THAT much, besides Chase did clue him into upcoming sacrifice. Chase eased up on Zen after that but still occasionally zings him. Monica, meanwhile, had been investing all the monies earned from Master Lee’s business and making him very rich. Monica had gone to college to get her Business Degree while George was off with Master Ojibwa. Master Lee then started producing his own psychic monthly newsletter and his daily horoscopes were published in a number of newspapers on the West Coast. Master Lee then got on the health food kick and opened up ‘Master Lee’s Calorie Counter Cafés’. He opened up twelve of them in Southern California. The gimmick of these restaurants is that you choose what items you want to eat and how many calories from each item. You are then served the portion sizes that come closest to your request. The menus also include dietary tips and recommended servings from each food group. These Cafes caught on quickly. There are now one hundred eight Cafes west of the Rocky Mountains. |
