The Legacy story began as the result of the collapse of the Lothlorien campaign and has grown only in my own mind as participation by anyone other than me was only a short-term thing at the very beginning.  Unable to let the characters go as a failed story, I have kept it alive if only for myself.

While the Lothlorien story was running and for the short time the Legacy ran, I found the characters more compelling than anything I’d ever been involved with before.  Maybe it was the drama that spilled over from reality that gave the characters a greater depth, maybe it was the role playing maturation of those involve that gave it life but it has ended up being something I can’t let go.

When Lothlorien was destroyed, there is no other word for it, part of the group agreed with me to continue so I was forced to shift the reasoning behind a group of teens working together from an altruistic guardian to something potentially infinitely worse, the Government.

Using the terrible events of real life as an impetus, I envisioned an American president faced with a national disaster, and determined to prevent at all costs a repeat, calling for the establishment of a series of government controlled ‘paranormal’ teams several steps above the older, less powerful, PRIMUS organization.  With the intent of influencing these new teams during their formative years, a school specifically design to not only educate in the traditional ways but indoctrinate in the concept of ‘super-patriotism’ was established for newly emergent ‘paranormals’.

The man tasked with the formation for this organization was perhaps not the best choice as his personal agenda has colored his interaction with the teams to the detriment of the overall concept.  Though Miller is prejudiced against his young charges he is also envious of them, believing them to be callow teens gifted with powers that should have been given to someone with more experience, more deserving, more aware of what is good for the nation, some like him.

In the first team, he has been fairly successful as his approach to each prospective candidate was more along the line of pandering to their patriotism.   He was able to win over the majority of the team while the remaining converts did so for more personal, including monetary, reasons.

With the second team, it has been a disaster.  Already experienced with the Wild Hunt, the more senior recruits, Nathaniel Ryan and Wren Collins, had to be blackmailed into joining, as did Josh Temple and Fuji Yamakaze.  These actions established an air of distrust and resentment immediately in the second team and gave the former head of the 1930’s ‘Mystery Men’ group Legacy, Mark Williams, the opening he needed to hijack the group entirely.

The new Legacy, at first, was a unit allied together again a common enemy, Miller and the government, but it quickly became a family as each found in the others similar histories and similar goals.  Now, augmented by three independent teens unknown to Miller, the Legacy exists quietly under the noses of the government, operating more as a grassroots type organization dedicated to the common people rather than on a national level as envisioned by the President.

One day, Legacy will come out into the open and gladly help their country but that day is dependent on a sea change on the government’s part.  Someone, somewhere in the bureaucracy has to come to understand that people don’t need to be forced to do what is right.
