| BACKGROUND | |||||
|
James Hawkins is the only child of Roger Hawkins, President and CEO of Hawkins International, and Jennifer King Hawkins, former model and older sister to Veronica King, the actress. Born to wealth, James became insensitive to money and privilege and bored with his life by the time he was ten. For the most part, he was raised by a succession of nannies and many times he treated them rather cruelly, having a evil sense of humor. When he was fifteen, his parents divorced, leaving James with a father that wasn't sure what to do with a young teenager. Both were quick to discover James did not have a head for high finance or an interest. His grades in school dropped, his interest in life in general vanished and to this day he counts his blessings for avoiding the typical trap of the idle rich, drugs and drink. At sixteen his entire life changed. James discovered he was a mutant. Immediately life was interesting, challenging and he greeted the manifestation with great delight. At first it was just a great way to mess with people but very soon he discovered this powers could be put to a more interesting use. He became a thrill seeker. It only took six months for James to become one of the most wanted cat burglars in California and just over seven months to find himself facing the bow of Ghost Archer. Try as he might, James could not take the bowman down and at last it was obvious even flight was out of the question as well. Archer hounded James until the boy was exhausted, then calmly bagged him for the police. The amazing thing was, Ghost Archer actually testified for James at his trial. The result was James' membership in Stormwatch. As part of his probation, James was sentenced to serve the public as the superhero, Icehawk. At first, this galled but after he rescued an incredibly attractive girl of 17, James came to like the whole thing. Soon he served willingly and became a teen heartthrob after a cover story in Hero Beat. Recently, after four years, James' probation with Stormwatch came to an end. Freed of responsibility and with a desire to wander a bit, James found himself in Seattle. Archer had spoken of this new group up there and how much trouble it was in. James thought it might be a challenge to work with a group of rookies. As soon as he arrived he found himself in combat. It was his old nemesis, Genocide. A egoist took control of Icehawk and ordered him to kill his new team mate Cat. Hell of an introduction to a new team. Luckily for both, Icehawk was not successful and Cat grudgingly excepted the fact Icehawk was not to blame. Over the next few weeks, Icehawk worked with the new group until, by chance, he encountered an exotic dancer by the name of Pam Portis as she entered Raven's warehouse. She wore an old camel colored trench coat and little else save body paint in the pattern of a tiger. James was stunned. Never had he seen such a beautiful girl. He spoke to Archer about her, then Raven and finally Linda Parker, Pam's booking agent. For $100000 he booked her for the entire month with an option for a second. This delighted Linda to no end but bothered Pam. Here was this handsome, rich young man that had, for intents and purposes, bought her. On his private plane to New York, Pam gave what has turned out to be her last paid performance as an exotic dancer. They ended up making love, each for different reasons and for each, those reasons where very clouded. Pam had never before had sex with any client but this one was very different. The way he looked at her, not with the usual lust, but with a tender, longing gaze touched something inside her. She knew this would be the biggest sum of money she was ever going to make in her whole life. Yet . . . she was so attracted to him, but the money, the contract would be there, in the way of really getting to know him. Than again, a man that could buy any woman he wanted would never really want her for more than a toy, but still he didn't seem to be the type to use a woman that way. She was confused, unsure of what she wanted or what he wanted. There were so many whys unanswered. She had been with only one man in her life and though she was a stripper it was for the joy of dance. Could he look beyond what she did and see who she was? For James, Pam was an epiphany. This girl, whom he had thought to be nothing more than one in a series of women in his life, was THE one. He was, in that instant, totally and forever in love with her. He wanted to show her the world. Hell, he wanted to GIVE her the world but could she look past all his money and see him for himself rather then his pocket book? He knew in his heart she could. Shining out through those beautiful eyes was a beautiful and loving soul. He had to prove to her he wanted more from her then sex, he had to prove to her that he he loved her truly, he had to prove to her that he was worthy of her love. "May I borrow your phone," she asked as she lay against him. The request was very far from what he would have expected her to say in the afterglow. Without a word he handed her his cell and she sat up and flipped it open. Quickly she dialed a number and waited as it rang. "Hi, Linda, its me," she said, her eyes locked on James'. "Cancel the contract and give him his money back." James' look of shock could only be overshadowed by Linda squawk of anguish at the loss of her commission. Pam calmly folded the phone and handed it back to James. He took it, a look on pain in his eyes. "Now money is not an issue between us," she said softly. "I am not 'bought' and you have not 'paid'. Relief flooded into James then consternation. "But I wanted to have you to myself for the month," he said. "You will,' she returned and kissed him lightly. They spent a day shopping in New York but did not stay long as Christmas was coming fast. James suggested his cabin in the Rockies for the holidays and Pam agree, provided he stuck to a budget, a realistic budget...to her. He agreed and from that moment Pam became the joy in his life. She was practical, level headed and frugal, but also innocent, loving and sweet. James, she found was everything a rich man should not be. Caring, gentle and loving, he never failed to surprise her by his simple devotion to her. They gave to each other something each missed. For James it was love, a thing he had never known. For Pam it was the life she dreamed of, a man like her dad to love her, care for her and let her be herself at the same time. For Christmas, they exchanged but a single gift. For Pam, James had spoken to Archer and he, in turn, given a commission to Narel's sister, Lauresul. From a fine chain of mithril, the true silver of the dwarves, hung a perfect snowflake the size of a dime. Cold forged of clear laen it was at once as delicate as a snowflake yet harder then diamond. Pam wears it at all time and in off guard moments, can be seen fingering it with a distant look in her eyes and a sweet smile on her lips. To James she gave a simple gift, a gift that proved to be the best gift of his life, an ID bracelet with a small piece of paper in it. On the paper were three words on: YES, NO and MAYBE. "With this," she explained. "You may change one answer to one question you ask of me, but only one." Even though the paper is now gone, James still wears the bracelet. Perhaps the greatest gift James ever gave her was the gift of her family. Pam had been very young and very much in love when she became pregnant with the child of boy from a rich and influential family. Caught up in the boy's parents lies, Pam had an abortion, something that was an anathema to her father. By chance she was discovered and condemned for her action. Rather then suffer the wrath and scorn of her father, she ran, all the way to Los Angeles. James made a trip to Detroit only to discover Pam's mother had died and her father, Kraig, had remarried. This did not stop him, he flew Pam in from Seattle and reunited the family...well most of it. The first time James asked Pam to marry him, she merely smiled and told him 'Maybe'. Being in love must have made him a little slow for it took several proposals before he at last drew the tiny piece of paper from the bracelet and handed it to her. "What answer do you want to change?" she asked him with a faintest lifting of the corners of her mouth. "Will you marry me," he said, quietly. "Maybe,' she replied again. He shook his head. "That is the answer I would change to 'yes'" he said. They were wed in Hawaii, with a cast of hundreds, including both of James' parents, and including two very unexpected guests. The first claimed Pam as his but Kraig put an end to this notion with back up from James and the rest of Pam's family. The second came from the dead. Ghost Archer stepped into the past and took Rachael Portis from a hospital bed as she lay dying. He could not change the past for it was done, but what none save him knew was that he could save the woman and replace her body with one provided by Spock. Bringing her forward to in time to the Manor, Archer quickly cured her and explained what had come to pass. To the stunned surprise of all the Portis', Rachael appeared at her daughter side of the wedding. Afterward, Kraig, still in shock, never missed his second wife and none save Archer knows what happened to her. Now Pam and James have been happily married for about a year and have just been blessed with there first child, Rebecca. They live out on the Cascade Peninsula in a small A frame surrounded by over a thousand acres of virgin wildness. James commutes to Seattle for 'work' with the Seattle Hunt while Pam stays at home with little Becky. All is perfect for them...for now. |

| Ice! Everywhere. He shoots it, slides on it, protects himself with it and as a last resort, freezes his opponent's very blood. | |||||
| PERSONALITY/MOTIVATION | |||||
|
Icehawk is flippant, irreverent and down right disrespectful. He doesn't take orders easily, takes nothing seriously and treats the whole world as if it were brought into existence to amuse him. He is, however, fiercely loyal to his friends and will do anything to help or protect them. The few times his mask of happy-go-lucky indifference slips is if an innocent bystander should step into a dangerous situation. Stormwatch is becoming used to Icehawk's puddles of ice around the base and merely groan in aggravation when he freezes their asses to a chair. Because of this, Icehawk is always seeking a new target for his sophomoric practical jokes. After four years with Stormwatch, Icehawk's carefree attitude has moderated. He has seen too much death and mutilation now to laugh it off all the time. At 21 he came into his inheritance, a trust fund worth nearly $100 million. This fund he uses anonymously to help victims of the violence he is constantly fighting. Should someone be injured or killed during a firefight, James will set up a trust fund for the family and pay all expenses during their recovery. |
