Play

By Domma Leigh

Long ago I was able to play

See the sun and soak up the rays

The clouds moved in turning the day

Into a living dreary gray

Long ago I was able to play

Letting the waves cover me in the spray

They closed the beach to my dismay

Letting it go into decay

Time past by, no time for play

It was time for work everyday

I took my role in this dismal play

Being what they wanted me to portray

I let my soul dwindle away

Turning into a cold, formless clay

No longer me, I had lost my way

I didn’t care where my future lay

A beckon from a place far away

Touched my soul in a bright array

Speaking words it had to convey

It called me forward, I had to obey

It whispered softly what it had to say

I am alone, come to me, is what I pray

You will never have to fight alone in the fray

I am here and will never go away

Yes I was afraid and want to run away

But the words called to me each and every day

Filling me like the scent of a fresh bouquet.

Awaking the spirit that long ago stray

I move within this new ballet

Dancing in the swirl of this sweet getaway.

Hoping deep inside I would not be betray

Living again in a new sunray.

The time is now, it’s time to play

The music plays sweeping the pain away

I will trust once more, come what may

With my friend at my side, everything is okay
