Ever So Close

By Domma Leigh

Lost to me is the pure love of life,

The magic to make it through the strife.

I walk through this life alone in despair

Knowing there is only me with no true one to share.

Only the one that held me dear, was the only one

That lost can not be replaced or undone.

I stand at the shoreline looking out for a beacon.

All the time the emotion within dying, as they weaken.

The memory of how it made me feel to be the only one,

The emotion flares for a moment but leaves me numb.

I search through the windows of all that I meet

Trying to win, beat the odds and facing defeat.

I am but a lost child crying out to be found

Holding back the feelings bound.

I reach out to you to touch, to be understood

Knowing in my heart you never could.

I am but the fading fancy within your eyes

A fond memory of a good time, for days gone by.

To the winds, fell my words to your ear as I pleaded.

Ever so close I thought I came to finding what I needed.
