Description:
Charlie is the product of a one-night stand, his mother having been picked up in a bar by his father. The stunning Latina beauty was instantly attracted to the handsome Anglo and the result was a spectacular melding of the two. At 5'10" and 174 pounds, Charlie has the lean, well-defined body of a distance runner and with his swarthy skin and brilliantly white smile he can stop a girl on the street with a glance. The one thing, the most eye-catching thing, that set him apart from other Latinos in East LA is his grey eyes and he uses them to great advantage.
BACKGROUND
Carlos dropped onto the couch causing the battered guitar case leaning against the back to bounce and slowly topple over. It make a soft thump and a faint discordant cluster of notes.
“Shit! She gonna kill me,” the boy muttered under his breath.
Twisting to leaned over the back of the sofa and tried to hook a finger under the case’s lid but the ancient duct tape on the case gave way and it slipped off his fingertip.
“Chinga!”
Pulling his feet up onto the cushions he snagged the cotton line that had replaced the original handle and draw the case up. He dropped back onto his ass and laid it across his lap to inspect the ruined Duct patch job.
“Why she still carryin’ dis thing?”
The first time he’d seen her that guitar case was all she had with her but that was months ago. He knew she got a stipend just like he did. She could afford a new one. Thumbing open the latches he lifted the lid. Only thing new about the guitar inside was a new set of strings. He traced the worn spot on the pick guard where she banged her thumb to create a drum sound.
On impulse he lifted the instrument from the worn red velvet lining and shoved the case to one side. Pulling the guitar to his chest he plucked the strings one at a time then tightened the A string slightly. Strumming across the strings he listened to the sound. Apparently satisfied his fingers arched over the bridge and settled into place. Slowly, as if remembering, he plucked out a series of notes then shifted his fingers. The melody was simple at first but within a few bars the simplicity disappeared.
Belle stopped just out of sight vacillating between fury and awe. Someone was playing with her guitar but they were playing it like Andres Segovia. Awe won and she peeked around the corner and nearly fell into the room. Carlos Sentara, walking hormone and big mouth sat in the middle of the couch with his eyes closed doing things to her guitar she’d only heard in her head. Spinning back into cover she leaned against the wall and closed her eyes, taking in the music.
Every note was not note perfect … but … it was Carlos … Okay, sure he was hot with gorgeous gray eyes but he was an asshole. No way was that music coming out of him. It had to be a recording or something. She did a quick peek then pressed her back to the wall again. It was him. How?
She took a deep breath and stepped boldly into the common you.
“Whatchu doin’ with my guitar?” She snapped, putting on her normal hostile tone.
Carlos’ fingers faltered and the music stopped.
“Why you ain’t bought no real guitar, chica?”
He placed the instrument gently back into the case and closed it.
“What that shit you playin’?” She snatched the case out of his lap and clutched it to her chest.
“Shit my abuelo taught me,” Carlos replied. “Why you still carry that old thing?”
He came to his feet and stood close, the case the only thing separating them. For a moment their eyes locked and she felt heat rising up her chest and into her face.
“Get out my face,” she growled, giving him a shove with the case.
He fell back onto the couch but never took his eyes off her. She flushed.
“Cuz my gran bought it for me!”
POWERS/TACTICS
Carlos is fast, not Blur or Kitsune fast, but he can hit Mach 1 in a flat out non-combat run. Like most speedsters, he is capable of some pretty amazing things as illustrated with his 'Speedster Trick'. Unlike the aforementioned Blur and Kitsune, Carlos has never bother to expand his 'tricks' repertoire to much beyond its combat uses. He prefers the 'traditional' Autofire Punch when facing a single opponent. When presented with multiple targets, he will endeavor to line them up in such a manner as to be able to hit them sequentially, his Moving Attack.
PERSONALITY/MOTIVATION
Carlos grew up in a culture that prizes machismo and even with the temperance of his mother and grandmother, he can be a real asshole, particularly when it comes to girls. He is a braggart, and showoff who thinks every hot looking chica should be his for the taking. That has gotten him into serious trouble a number of times. There are a few guy out there that can't understand why their shots didn't hit the little bastard but if it comes to gunplay, Carlos gets out as quickly, without giving too much away, as possible. Good thing his being hard to hit can be explained as a lousy shot.
Thing is, Carlos has been influenced by his mother and grandmother more then he will ever let on. That's why he is in the MM, not for the free college or the pay, okay, maybe for the pay, but he truly wants to help people. He's just not sure yet how to do it.
