Description:
Emma is an attractive, well built young woman with long light brown hair and brown eyes that look white hot when she is using her powers.
BACKGROUND
Emma and her father were camping on the slopes of the Icelanic volcano Hekla on the evening of 26 Feb, 2000 when the volcano erupted throwing a considerable volume of magma into the air. To the horror of her father one of these lava bombs flattened the tent into which she had just retired for the night. Actually, that blob of molten rock killed her, but not because of the fact it was superheated but rather by the sheer weight of the material. This lava didn't even have time to harden before Emma's metahuman powers kicked in. Like the legendary Phoenix, she too rose from the ashes of what was left of her body and burst into flame, freeing herself from the cooling magma. All this surprised the hell out of her father. Together they decided to keep it a secret, telling only her mother.
Living on Iceland meant living with volcanos in her back yard and after her experience, she decided to study vulcanology. By the time the United States announced the Project Minuteman program, Emma was in her junior year at the University of Iceland nearing the completion of her BS.
POWERS/TACTICS
Emma is not exactly sure how she can act as a 'hero' representing Iceland. Her offensive powers are limited to burning things up while her defensive powers protect her very well against energy type attacks. As there are few such attacks, the government is concerned about her surviving any confrontation with even a rare armed civilian. They have provided her with a protective suit to help to keep her alive. She has been undergoing some basic hand-to-hand combat training but is perhaps years away from being confident in those skills.
PERSONALITY/MOTIVATION
Emma really wants nothing more than to study vulcanology and since she is immune to the dangers of a volcano, she wants to do it from the inside. She will tolerate the government's occasional press conference but tries to be conveniently out in the field when one pops up. Good thing there are a lot of volcanos in Iceland ... you never know which one she is studying.
