Blackjack | Used one handed; 1 to 2 feet in length weighing 1 to 2 pounds. This can be as simple as a sock filled with sand or as complex as a specially designed leather pouch with a handle and wrist thong. |

Club | Used one handed; 3 to 5 feet in length weighing 3 to 7 pounds. The primordial weapon. The first thing any evolving creature picks up to hit something with. |

Cudgel | Used one handed; 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 feet in length weighing 4 to 5 pounds. A wood or metal haft with a usually smooth ball at the business end. This weapon bashes without drawing blood. A favorite of some clerics. |

Flail | Used two handed; 2 1/2 to 4 feet in length weighing 4 to 8 pounds. A wood or metal haft with as many as three bladed or spiked balls attached with a chain. Again, a dangerous weapon for a novice to wield but deadly in the hands of an expert. |

Goupillon Flail | Used two handed; 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 feet in length weighing 4 to 5 pounds. Similar to a Morning star but with three spiked balls on chain. Again, a very dangerous weapon to a novice. |

Mace | Used one handed; 2 to 3 feet in length weighing 3 1/2 to 8 pounds. A wood or metal haft with a spiked or bladed ball at the business end. A favorite of many clerics. |

Maul | Used one handed or two handed; 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 feet in length weighing 4 to 8 pounds. A simple smashing weapon. Can be nothing more than a short section of log mounted on a wooden haft or a fine steel head on a steel haft. A favorite of trolls, ogres and some giants. |

Morning Star | Used one handed; 2 1/2 to 4 feet in length weighing 4 to 8 pounds: A wood or metal haft with spiked ball attached by a length of chain.. To the uninitiated this weapon may be more dangerous then any foe. |

Tomahawk | Used one handed; 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet in length weighing 2 to 4 pounds. At it's crudest form is a triangular piece of stone tied to a stick and used as either a bashing or slashing weapon. The stone can be replaced with a piece of sharpened metal (also triangular) and mounted on a rod of iron. |

War Hammer | Used one handed; 1 1/2 to 4 feet in length weighing 4 to 7 pounds. Designed to bash a foe into unconsciousness. Often has a pick on the reverse of the hammer face. May have a double head. |

Bastard Sword | Used either one or two handed; 3 1/2 to 5 feet in length weighing 4 to 7 pounds. A double edged blade with an unusually long hilt. It may be used one handed but it is clumsy. Also called a hand and a half sword. |

Battle Axe / Broad Axe | Used hand and a half; 2 1/2 to 4 feet long weighing 5 to 9 pounds: This is generally a single bladed weapon with a pick on the reverse of the blade for armor piercing. A favorite of the dwarves. |

Broad Sword | Used one handed; 2 to 3.5 feet in length weighing 3 to 5 pounds. A double edged blade that is the mainstay of the fighter. This weapon works equally well in slash or thrust. |

Claymore | Used two handed; 4 to 5 feet in length weighing 5 1/2 to 8 pounds. A double edged straight blade with quillon normally set at an angle toward the blade. This is the famed Scottish sword. |

Cutlass | Used one handed; 2 to 3 feet in length weighing 3 to 6 pounds. A single edged blade curving near the tip with a guard that normally cover the hand. This is generally a very cheap weapon, designed for simple hacking. A favorite of sailors. |

Dagger | Used one handed; 1 to 2 feet in length weighing 1 to 3 pounds. Generally a double edged blade used for stabbing more than slashing. |

Dirk | Used one handed; 9 to 15 inches in length weighing 1/2 to 1 1/2 pounds. A double edged pointed blade similar ro the dagger but generally a bit larger. |

Falchion | Used one handed: 2 to 3 feet in length weighing 3 1/2 to 5 pounds. A single edged blade that is broader at the point the than the base. The increased weight toward the end of the blade increase the effect of the slash. Not generally used for stabbing. |

|
Flamberge | Used two handed; 4 to 6 feet in length weighing 6 1/2 to 9 pounds. The sword has a wavy edge along the final three quarters of the blade. Normally two small blades extend from the main blade at the point the wavy section begins. The quillons are heavy and normally curved toward the blade. |

|
Foil | Used one handed; 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 feet in length weighing 1 1/2 to 2 pounds. Nothing more than a pointed length of high tnesile rod mounted on a hilt with a cup hand guard. The tip is all that can normally draw blood as it is a pure thrusting weapon. It is possible to use this weapon to whip an unarmoresd foe. A favorite of Swashbucklers. |

Francisca | Used one handed; 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet long weighing 3 to 5 pounds. This is the classic double bladed axe and is a preferred weapon of Vikings. It is a marvelously balanced weapon designed to be thrown. |

Gladius | Used one handed; 1 1/2 to 2 feet in length weighing 2 to 4 pounds. The original short sword it was designed as a thrusting weapon and normally does not have a well honed edge. |

Great Axe | Used two handed; 3 to 6 feet long weighing 7 to 12 pounds. This is the granddaddy of the axes. As with the Battleaxe it is generally single bladed with a pick on the reverse of the blade for armor piercing. |

Great Sword | Used two handed; 4 to 7 feet in length weighing 5 to 12 pounds. A devastating double edged blade that can be clumsy. Very few can withstand more then a single blow from this weapon. Also called the two handed sword. |

Hand Axe | Used one handed; 1 1/2 to 3 feet in length weighing 4 to 6 pounds. This is the one hand version of the Battleaxe. Generally it is single bladed with a pick on the reverse of the blade for armor piercing. |

Knife | Used one handed; less than 12 inches in length weighing about 1 pound. These blades are usually single edged and used for slashing more then stabbing. |

Long Sword | Used one handed; 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 feet in length weighing 3 to 4 pounds. A double edged blade. Somewhat similar to the broadsword but lighter and slimmer. |

Main Gauche | Used one handed; 12 to 18 inches in length weighing 1 to 2 pounds. This is modified Dagger with a special basket type hilt for blocking a blade with the off hand. Generally the weapon is employed with a primary blade in the dominant hand. Often used in Florentine style fighting. |

Rapier | Used one handed; 3 to 5 feet in length weighing 1 1/2 to 3 pounds. A double edged blade designed for lightning movements. Works equally well for thrusting and slashing. Often used with a Main Gauche in the Florentine style. A favorite of the true swashbuckler. |

Sabre | Used one handed; 2 to 3 feet in length weighing 2 1/2 to 4 pounds. a single edged curved blade similar to the scimitar. Favored by cavalry. |

Scimitar | Used one handed; 2 1/2 to 4 feet in length weighing 3 to 5 pounds. A single edged blade that is curved to provide extra leverage. The weapons is designed not for thrusting but slashing. A favorite weapon of desert horsemen. |

Short Sword | Used one handed; 1 1/2 to 2 feet in length weighing 2 to 4 pounds. Originally designed as a thrusting weapon it has evolved into a slashing blade as well. |

|
Stiletto | Used one handed; 8 to 14 inches in length weighing a pound to a pound and a half. This blade was designed to penetrate between the links of chainmail and is usually employed in the off hand. Assassins have adopted it because of its ability to deliver a fatal wound with minimal of bleeding. It is well balanced and may be used for throwing. |

Blow Gun | Used two handed; 3 to 6 feet in length weighing half a pound to 3 pounds. This is a hollow tube designed to deliver a dart to a target at a distance. The darts may be poisoned. |

Composite Bow | Used two handed; 2 1/2 to 4 feet in length weighing 2 to 3 pounds. Similar to the Long bow in many aspects but without the range. A favorite of horse archers as it is short than its long bow cousin. Generally very expensive as it takes a talented bowyer to build this bow. |

Crossbow | Used two handed; 2 to 4 1/2 feet in length weighing 4 to 12 pounds. The 'Saturday night special' of the medieval world. Cheap to make, easy to operate (though very slow) and accurate at close ranges. |

Long Bow | Used two handed; 5 to 7 feet in length weighing 2 to 3 pounds, The premier bow for centuries and the downfall of the Armored Cavalry. At the Battle of Agincourt the badly out numbered English army under Henry V destroyed 10,000 heavily armored French knights while losing only 500. |

Short Bow | Used two handed; 2 1/2 to 3 1/2 feet in length weighing 1 1/2 to 2 pounds. The short ranged version of the long bow. Easier to make it is also possible to fire this weapon from horseback. |

Bardiche | A large axe blade mounted on a pole, this weapon is often found with mercenaries who relish the extra reach it provides. |

Boar Spear | Used two handed; 4 1/2 to 6 feet in length weighing 5 to 7 pounds. Designed with two blades perpendicular to the shaft to prevent a foe from pushing his way down the shaft to attack you. |

Glaive | Basically, a sword blade attached to a long pole for extra reach. Danex city guard and all the legion's military police favor these weapons. It has been rumored that an evil creature who works for Gierda the dark favors the Glaive. |

Halberd | The oldest of polearm types, a long pole with a spear head and an axe blade attached under it. Versatile weapon, but it loses a great degree of it's utility in close combat. The standard issue weapon of the Maxum Gatewatch. |

Lance | Used two handed: 9 to 15 feet in length weighing 8 to 15 pounds. Nothing more than a pointed pole designed to impale a foe from horseback.. A Knight's favorite. |

Long Spear | A lengthened version of the average spear, about 8-14 feet long, a two handed weapon, though a shield can be slung over the shoulder and held to the arm through a length of cord while wielding it. |

Trident | Used two handed; 5 to 8 feet in length weighing 4 to 6 pounds. A long pole topped bt a fork of two or three tines, generally barbed. Originally designed for fishing, this weapon was adapted to war probably by the various sea folk. |

Bola | Used two handed; 3 1/2 to 4 feet long weighing 2 to 3 pounds. A weapon designed to capture the target instead of killing. It consisting of several cords or ropes tied at the center, each with a weight on the end. It is held at the axis and twirled above the head and throw at the target causing the weighted cords to entangle the target. |

Darts | Used one handed; 6 inches in length weighing only a few ounces. While not too dangerous in itself, poison can be added. |

Harpoon | A heavy spear like weapon, typically fitted with a serrated or hooked spearblade. Made to impale and reel in seaborne animals from fish to whales. These weapons are commonly seen in the ports of any city. They can double as a decent melee weapon if naught else is available. The Maxum marine-legionary unit, known as the Krakenslayers, specialize in the use of these excellent weapons. |

Hatchet / Throwing Axe | Used one handed; 1 1/2 to 3 feet in length weighing 4 to 6 pounds. Designed to be thrown. Generally it is single bladed with a pick on the reverse of the blade for armor piercing. |

Javelin | Used one handed; 4 to 7 feet in length weighing 3 to 5 pounds. A short slender spear with the head no larger in diameter then the shaft. Commonly thrown. |

Sling | Used one handed, mostly; 1 1/2 to 3 feet in length weighing almost nothing. A leather patch tied between to leather thongs. A lead bullet or a simple stone is whipped around the head and flung at the target. Cheap but takes some skill to hit anything. |

Stun Ball | Usually a hefty ball, like a shot put but not as heavy. It is thrown at a person to inflict pain or at the head to render one unconscious. |

Cestus | Used one handed; 7 to 10 inches in length weighing less than 1 pound. A mail or leather glove with spikes or bars across the knuckles to increase hand to hand damage. |

Lasso | A rope, tied in such a way as to produce a loop capable of being throw about a target and drawn tight. |

Mattock | Used two handed; 3 1/2 to 5 feet in length weighing 5 to 7 pounds. Originally a tool for digging in hard soil but with the advent of armor some enterprising farmer tried it on a armored foe and it worked. Also called a pick. |

Net | Used two handed with enough area to spread open the net while throwing. Typically interwoven ropes designed to tangle a person. Weighted on the edges these things can bring down a person easily. Bad range but good trapping power. |

Quarterstaff | Used two handed. 5 1/2 to 7 feet in length weighing 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 pounds. This is still the classic weapon of the poor as any one can produce one with nothing more that a straight branch. |

Whip | Used one handed; 6 to 9 feet in length weighing 2 to 5 pounds. Requires a large area to operate. Of little use to a well armored foe but hell on the bare skin. Can flay the skin from the bone in the hands of a master. |
