Soft Leather This armor consists of any untreated, medium-weight animal skin.  Leather clothing is considered as Soft Leather

Heavy Leather This armor consists of heavy-weight but flexible animal skin.  This type of armor looks less like normal clothing and  more like true armor.

Padded Cloth This armor consists of heavy, multi-layered cloth sew together with a padding between two or more layers to help absorb the attack.

Boiled Leather/ Cuir-bouilli This armor consists of leather that is boiled, shaped and hardened with wax. This thick leather armor is fairly restrictive.

Studded Leather This armor consists of boil leather reinforced with studs and metal strips.

Brigandine This armor consists of a layer of heavy cloth, a layer of metal scales and another layer of heavy cloth.

Ring Mail This armor consists of non-overlapping metal ring sewn onto a heavy leather backing.

Scale Mail This armor consists of overlapping metal scales riveted onto a heavy leather backing.

Splint Mail This armor consists of vertical strips of metal riveted onto a heavy leather backing.

Chain Mail This armor consists of interlocking metal rings fitted into a flexible material.

Laminated This armor consists of overlapping metal strips that are linked together.

Banded Mail This armor consists of overlapping horizontal metal bands that are linked together.

Double Mail This armor consists of heavy interlocking metal rings that are thicker than normal chain and consequently less flexible.

Plate and Chain This armor consists of a series of plate reinforcing a chain underlayer.  It provides an increase in protection with one a slight loss of flexiblity.

Field Plate This armor consists of large articulated fitted plates attached with buckles and screws.

Full Plate This armor consists of heavy large articulated fitted plates that provide complete coverage at the cost of tremendous weight.

Components of Armor
Type Description
Full Helmet This component covers the entire head, it may be visored or not.  The main drawback to this component is its restriction of vision. Location 3-5.
Cap This component covers covers the top of the head only but does not restrict vision.  Location 4-5.
Coif This component covers the top and sides of the head, back of the neck and shoulders.  Location 4-5, 9.
Helm This component covers the top and sides of the head.  It may have a nasel guard.  Location 4.
Gauntlets This component covers the hands and forearms.  Location 6-7.
Gloves This component covers the hands.  Location 6.
Brassards This component covers the upper arms and forearms. Location 7-8.
Vambraces This component covers the forearms.  Location 7.
Rerebraces This component covers the upper arms.  Location 8.
Pauldrons This component covers the shoulders.  Location 9.
Haubeck This component covers the entire upper body and thighs but not the hands.  Location 7-14.
Corselet This component covers the shoulders, torso and legs to the knees.  Location 9-15.
Byrnie This component covers the shoulders, torso and thighs.  Location 9-14.
Cuirass This component covers the shoulder and torso.  Location 9-13.
Vest This component covers the torso.  Location 10-13
Breastplate This component covers the shoulders, chest and stomach.  Location 9-12.
Skirtplate This component covers the stomach and groin.  Location 12-13.
Chausses This component covers the legs and feet.  Location 14-18.
Leggings This component covers the legs.  Location 14-17.
Knee cops This component covers the knees.  Location 15
Demigreaves The component covers the shins.  Location 16.
Greaves This compoent covers the shins and ankles.  Location 16-17.
Anklets This component covers the ankles.  Location 17.
Boots This component covers the ankles and feet.  Location 17-18.
