Description:
BACKGROUND
Ken Sawyer is a genetics researcher specializing in stem cell research. A few years ago, when his research was in its very beginnings, a man came to him and offered to fund his work to the tune of several hundred million dollars. It was impossible to turn the offer down. The thing was, he was required to narrow his target research to a very specific genetic problem, one involving total paralysis from a degenerative spinal disease. Ken was making good progress when he met Sid Waite, a specialist in bionics, also funded from the same source, and studying the same disease. The two men got along almost instantly and began cross-pollinating their work. Sid was working on an exoskeleton that would give a victim of this terrible disease at least some mobility but was having trouble with the neural interface. Ken investigated the problem and discovered Sid's system would work only on a few genetically matched persons, one being himself. He was the first to test the battlesuit. It worked far better then either had expected. Six months into the trials of the prototype, their financier died and in his well left an endowment to continue Ken and Sid's research.
Ken received a frantic call early one morning from Sid's wife. She described a terrifying home invasion by a group of heavily armed men in green uniforms. Her husband was taken, beaten into submission after he tried to defend his wife, and she was given a message. “Tell Sawyer to bring the battlesuit to Redwood Regional Park at 2 am. Shine a blue light. Someone would meet him.”
Sawyer did just that, from inside the suit. Though he did not have any weapons at the time, Ken was able to defeat the Five Team and rescue Sid. Since that time they have been operating as a team, Ken using the suit, Sid repairing it and upgrading the systems.

Self-defense? To save a friend? To protect their family? Ken and Sid are still researching their original problem but now have other methods of helping people. Both are dedicated to that end and both are willing to give their lives to further their cause.
