Thou shalt not transform others.

Thou shalt not enthrall another.

Thou shalt not reach beyond the borders of life.

Thou shalt not swim against the Currents of Time.

T
hou shalt not seek beyond the Outer Gates.

Definition: Wizards are mortal beings, in other words, humans, that are able to use magic and that adhere to the Seven Laws of Magic.

Not every wizard has great power.  Many, in fact, live a more or less mundane life untroubled by the Magic World or the monsters therein.  They are palmists, holistic healers, occult authors and hedge wizards but they are also the librarian, convenience store clerk, pizza delivery guy and your neighbor.  Though they possess the ability to use magic, they will never have the power to cast more than a few minor spells and many don't even believe in or understand the true nature of their power.  A great many never even realize what they are.  Untapped, over the years, their magic slowly fades and is gone.
But we aren't here to talk about potential wizards.  What fun would that be?  We are here to speak of true practitioners of the magic arts.  Mortals capable of throwing lightning or disappearing from sight.  We are here to discuss those with real power.
Magic is a fickled thing.  It manifests in one as the ability to create the light of a single candle.  In the next there is the power to burn down an entire building.  The potential for a mortal to have this type of power is very small, perhaps one in ten million and even those with the power vary greatly.  Many wizards learn their first spells by experimenting, sometimes with disastrous results.  If they are lucky, their power comes to the notice of a trained wizard and they become apprenticed to a more experienced mentor.  It it that very thing that begins this story but first, let's introduce the wizards.
